Summer in the six has plenty to offer. From free events to film festivals, Toronto is bustling with activities perfect for date nights or the whole family. Here are the top ten events you won’t want to miss this summer!

10. Canadian National Exhibition

The EX is a Toronto Summer mainstay and continues to draw crowds for their midway rides and culinary creations. This year, chow down at foodie favourite Fidel Gastro’s at the Food Truck Festival, have a Crowbar for dessert at Hula Girl Espresso and wash it down with a brew from the Craft Beer Festival. For kids, the midway can’t be beat, while the Superdogs are sure to entertain the whole family.

9. Taste of the Danforth

This annual food festival in Greektown is free, and full of amazing food. Live music and an olive eating world record attempt provide the entertainment in between all the gyros and tzatziki.

8. Fan Expo Canada

For comic book fans, sci-fi and horror flick aficionados, gamers and anime lovers, Fan Expo Canada is packed with appearances this year, including the legendary Stan Lee.

7. Front Street Foods

Right in the heart of the downtown core at Union Station, Front Street Foods is fueling the neighbourhood with a chic outdoor food festival. Stop by on your lunch break or after work to chow down on something healthy & local or treat yourself! With great local haunts, including the infamous Uncle Tetsu’s Japanese Cheesecake, this ongoing food festival is not to be missed!

This summer, check out some of the world’s top female players take to the court. Cheer on Canada’s Eugenie Bouchard and the world’s no. 1, Serena Williams.

5. Toronto Men’s Fashion Week

TOMFW features emerging and established Canadian menswear designers. While Christopher Bates brings his Italian-training to sharp suiting, Pedram Karimi brings a modern approach to menswear design.

4. Buskerfest

Don’t miss the Toronto International Buskerfest in the Downtown Yonge neighbourhood! There’s something for everyone with magicians, street artists, dancers and circus performers. Kids will love the variety, while adults will love live music and unique entertainment. This year, over 170 performers take centre stage on the street. You can grab a patio seat nearby and watch from afar, or join in on a circle show for a front-row seat! The event also supports Epilepsy Toronto, so having fun can also do good.

3. Sail-in Cinema

For a new way to watch a movie, rent a boat (or find a lucky friend) and sail in to the movies near Sugar Beach. This is the largest outdoor movie theatre and is double sided, so if you have sea-legs you can bring a blanket and watch the flick on the sands of Sugar Beach. With 1980s classics like The Goonies and E.T. you can rediscover your childhood with your kids!

2. Parapan Am Games

The Pan Am Games dazzled Toronto with A-list music performers, fireworks from the CN Tower and Team Canada bringing home 217 medals. From August 7 to 15, you won’t want to miss the Parapan Am Games, the largest Parapan Am Games ever! Swimming, athletics and wheelchair basketball are popular events, while volleyball and judo are also exciting to watch! Panamania will continue at Nathan Phillips Square during the week as well, with Jann Arden, The Roots and Janelle Monae still to take the stage!

1. The Toronto International Film Festival

Rounding out our list and the end of summer in Toronto, TIFF15 brings the A-listers to town with a roster of great films. With programming for children and adults, future blockbusters and indie flicks, TIFF is 10 days chock-full of movies to see.

If you’re an autograph chaser, you’ll want to line up and wait by the red carpet as Jake Gyllenhaal, and Johnny Depp premiere their upcoming films too. While many films premiere in the entertainment district, many celebrities stay up north in Yorkville or further downtown to escape the fuss… so you might catch a movie star in a hotel elevator if you’re lucky! Nightlife downtown also picks up, with bars open past last call, restaurants abuzz and plenty of exclusive parties make Toronto feel like Hollywood for a couple weeks!
