Art is the focus in the model suite for Riverhouse at the Old Mill. Designed with a downsizer in mind, the 1,584-square-foot unit features a transitional “classic contemporary” style that designer Sarah Tremblay calls “bright and easy to live with.” It has an enclosed kitchen and plenty of space for living, with a light but neutral palette that leaves the art on the walls to pop — all of it original and handpicked from Gallery Gevik in Yorkville, then showcased throughout the suite. “Our art consultant met with them and went through and selected everything,” adds Ms. Tremblay, a designer with Munge Leung. “We were able to select incredible art.” Suites at Riverhouse at the Old Mill, by Lanterra Developments, range from 675 to 2,152 square feet and are priced from $514,900 to $1,767,900. 1.“Because the kitchen is enclosed, it could have started to feel a bit tight,” Ms. Tremblay points out, and that’s why she chose to feature glass-front upper cabinetry, as well as open shelving. “Transparency is always good when you’re working in any kind of smaller space.”

2. To create a tone-on-tone effect with the grey hue of the lower cabinetry, Ms. Tremblay opted for this glass subway tile backsplash, also in grey. The granite countertops, meanwhile, create cohesion between the upper and lower cabinets, integrating both the white and grey tones.

3. “Pretty,” “bright” and “airy” are the adjectives Ms. Tremblay uses to describe this chandelier from Union Lighting and Furnishings. Made up of a series of cylinders in glass and polished chrome, the contemporary fixture adds a dramatic focal point to the suite’s living room space.

4. Matching armchairs with rounded backs add curvature to the living room, for a less linear look. Purchased at South Hill Home, the more transitional chairs are juxtaposed with a contemporary patterned upholstery that helps create visual interest. “It feels fresh and new,” says the designer.

5. “It’s sculptural. It’s really beautiful,” Ms. Tremblay says of this slim-lined coffee table from South Hill Home, which draws eyes with its sleek metallic design. “Even though the purchaser here is more established, they’re still going to be excited about contemporary design elements like this.”

6. While it may look like the whole room was designed around it, this grey-taupe lacquer console from Elte – which features doors lined in metallic tea paper – was actually chosen last, the perfect finishing touch for the living room. “It just fit so perfectly,” says Ms. Tremblay.
